THINK GROUP CLASSES ARE LESS EXPENSIVE?
            THE REAL VALUE STORY
          In-YOUR-Home versus Group

Having been a group class instructor I know the challenge it is to give productive
one-on-one coaching during a class.  Even with limiting enrollments to only 6 people it is
very difficult to address each person's needs in a 60-minute window.  By the time you
review the last session to check for progress (5 minutes), teach at least two new
exercises (20 minutes each) and have a short Q&A period (10 minutes) you've used 55
minutes.  If you allot only 5 minutes of one-on-one time with 6 students you've used
HALF of the available class minutes before even starting the class!  The math just
doesn't work.

The Pet Teacher In-YOUR-Home private sessions are devoted entirely to your needs
... at your pace ... addressing your challenges ... customized to you and your dog.  My
hourly fee of $40 is far more cost efficient than even a pet store's hourly rate of
$79 for private sessions - plus I come to your home rather than in some distracting
store environment!  You get more customized time devoted entirely to you and your
dog -- all in your dog's home and surroundings by a highly experienced professional!
That's the real value story!
You stay home - I travel to you.  Where the
challenges exist!
You travel to the class location.  Where the
surroundings definitely change the problems!
You get all my attention one-on-one for the full
class, totally focused on your family and dog.
Group classes have anywhere from 5-20 students,
all sharing the same instructor attention in an
often noisy, distracting environment.  Every dog
has a different temperament, every handler has a
different personality and a different agenda.
The instructor has to try to meet everyone’s and
every dog’s needs all in one hour.
I design a customized curriculum that targets
areas specific to you and your dog's needs.  If
your dog already knows Sit and Down, there is no
sense teaching them to you again simply because
others in the class don't yet know it.
The group class curriculum is fixed and meant to
satisfy the overall needs of every student in
every class, not just your specific needs.
In-YOUR-Home classes move at your pace. As
your dog learns we move on, allowing more
training to take place in the same time as a group
class.
Group classes move at one pace - the pace that
fits the fixed curriculum.
In-home class schedules are flexible and can
usually be adjusted to meet both your learning
needs and your schedule.

Include everyone in the family who interacts with
the dog – husband, wife, grandparents, and even
the babysitter.  This way everyone learns how to
consistently communicate with your dog.
Group classes often have limited space in the
classroom.  Some classes limit the number of
people who practice within the learning are to
the handler only, and request that other family
members sit off and observe only.
We can control in-home distractions.  To help
your dog succeed, distractions are necessary for
training.  However, the right way to train is to
start distractions at a minimum to allow the dog
to focus, and then slowly add more of them into
the instruction.
You have no control of the environment in a store
class.  Other dogs are barking, birds are
squawking, forklifts beeping, overhead
announcements blaring, shopping carts moving,
kids running, shoppers talking.  You and your dog
have a difficult time hearing the instructor and
focusing on the training.

              SOCIALIZATION
Dog Day Care versus Group Class
You don't need a group class to socialize your dog.  You can accomplish this socialization
MUCH BETTER if you take your dog to a good dog day care facility.  At a qualified dog
day care facility your dog can get up to 10 times the socialization in 1 visit than in 8
group class sessions!  Plus, your dog will learn self-confidence away from you, which is
vitally important for good socialization, while interacting with other dogs and other
people.  A good dog day care facility will require you to first meet them so they can
evaluate your dog, both while you are there and then away from you to ensure that
your dog has a fun and successful time while in their care.

The combination of In-YOUR-Home sessions combined with a qualified dog day care
facility is the best teaching and socialization package for your dog's learning
experience!
